a new skill

Today MJ practiced a new skill.  She has been pulling up and cruising on furniture for a about a week or so now and until today her favorite game has been to pull up and throw her toys off of the table for me to retrieve.  Today that all changed.  She has figured out how to hold on with one hand and lean over and pick up her own toys.  In fact, she got so good at it that she wanted, as usual, to learn how to multi-task.  She would then drop two toys off of the table, hold on with her left hand and lean down to grab one with her right.  Once that toy was securely in her grasp, she transferred it to the holding area, her mouth.  Toy one safely secured in the mouth, MJ then reached for toy two and brought both up to the table.

I know it doesn’t sound like much, but you should see the self satisfied look in her eyes when she manages to play her favorite game without any help at all.

  1. This is a major leap in her development of logic and problem solving. It’s a big deal. It also frees you up for a minute or two. Isn’t it fun to watch the way their little minds work? Oh, I miss babies and toddlers. They are so much fun.

  2. OK. So I went to bed and am now back up. My mind is racing with memories that result in uncontrollable sobbing which was keeping Bruce and the dogs awake. Win and Bell followed me out to the Florida room where the three of us are curled on the couch. Of course, I’m doing my usual “break down later” thing and needed to redirect my thoughts, so your description of MJ multi-tasking was perfect! She was doing that Thursday but I didn’t know that it was something new.

It’s now after midnight…and I’ve “..let it all hang out” so guess it’s back to bed “…perchance to sleep.” Love you, MOM

  3. Actually, that’s HUGE! She’s able to focus on several thoughts at once, can balance, use different parts of her body for different tasks AND be independent – MJ is a rocking little girl today!

  4. What a smarty baby!
