Music Monday – I’m So Tired

Ever since I was a teenager I have had issues with insomnia in the winter. For some reason January and February come along and sleep becomes less and less of an option. I recall distinctly one year going for about 150+ hours with no sleep at all. Of course, the more tired I get, the less rational I get. The less rational, the more crazed. This is the song that always runs through my head at these times.

I’m so tired, I haven’t slept a wink
I’m so tired, my mind is on the blink
I wonder should I get up and fix myself a drink
No, no, no

CableDad has been working some crazy insane hours recently. If he’s lucky he gets to sleep between 2 and 6 am most nights. When he’s not in bed, I don’t sleep either. On more than one occasion I’ve considered self medicating…

I’m so tired I don’t know what to do
I’m so tired my mind is set on you
I wonder should I call you but I know what you’d do

He’d tell me to go back to bed. HA!

You’d say I’m putting you on
But it’s no joke, it’s doing me harm
You know I can’t sleep, I can’t stop my brain
You know it’s three weeks, I’m going insane
You know I’d give you everything I’ve got
For a little peace of mind

This has been going on for at least three weeks now and the end doesn’t seem to be in sight. My mind has gone into overdrive, and not in a good or creative way.

I’m so tired, I’m feeling so upset
Although I’m so tired I’ll have another cigarette
And curse Sir Walter Raleigh
He was such a stupid get.

I quit cigarettes in 2000 but I’ve been getting that… urge recently. Nervous energy, I guess.

You’d say I’m putting you on
But it’s no joke, it’s doing me harm
You know I can’t sleep, I can’t stop my brain
You know it’s three weeks, I’m going insane
You know I’d give you everything I’ve got
For a little peace of mind
I’d give you everything I’ve got
For a little peace of mind
I’d give you everything I’ve got
For a little peace of mind

Peace of mind. Peace of mind.

Of course, if I think about it, I’m probably getting more sleep now than I was this time last year. Last year I had a new born. This year I have a toddler.

Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE The Beatles?

  1. Diagnosing your Taurus:
    -has s/he had enough food?
    -has s/he had enough sleep?
    -has s/he had enough sex?
    -has s/he had enough vice?

  2. Oh, huge, huge hugs. I’m a bear when insomnia hits. Are you getting your exercise in? Lots and lots of water? Also, as weird as this sounds, boiling romaine into a broth and then putting it in something else (because it smells and tastes stinky) is a great sleep aid.

And is there any greater group than the Beatles, really?

  3. I hear you girl! I can’t sleep either and I am exhausted and then just a crabby mommy to everyone! Maybe it has a lot to do with the fact that my hubs has been gone for 3 weeks! He comes home on Thursday, I plan on sleeping all weekend.

  4. Maybe you need Maxwell’s Silver Hammer to go bang bang on your head to help you sleep? (Couldn’t help it. I love the Beatles too).

In all seriousness though, I hope you get some good zzzzz’s soon. Exhaustion does not equal a whole lot of good.

  5. Same from over here, hope you can regulate soon. I’ve had insomnia since I was 19 or so and I know it can really mess with your head. There’s no shame in taking a Sominex.

  6. I have the same sleep pattern. No matter what time I go to bed I will wake up after only 3-4 hours. The hubster also has crazy work hours and yes, I can’t sleep well if he’s not there either. Hope you can finally get a good night’s sleep.

Now it’s time to say good night
    Good night sleep tight.
Now the sun turns out his light
    Good night sleep tight.
    Dream sweet dreams for me
    Dream sweet dreams for you.

  7. OMG, love them too! And this song…ha, reminds me of those days. but not now…I skipped work because I opted to sleep for 48 hours! LOL

  8. well you’ve probably read all my problems with sleep…doesn’t help either that when I can actually sleep, there’s always some commitment that forces me out of bed way before my body is ready to get up.

  9. I’ve been exhausted the last few days and I don’t even have insomnia as an excuse. I hope you’re able to get some Zs tonight.

  10. The Beatles are gods. I love love love this song. Especially the line about Sir Walter Raleigh.

I hope you get some relief soon!

  11. I’ve gone my whole life on 2-5 hours sleep a night. At 47,.. it’s starting to show.

Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye

    Golden slumbers fill your eyes
Smiles awake you when you rise
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye

Once there was a way to get back homeward
Once there was a way to get back home
Sleep pretty darling do not cry
And I will sing a lullabye

    Peace.

  12. I am so sympathetic.
